Huon River in Fog

A morning drive south of Hobart along the Huon River became an opportunity to approach the landscape differently. Fog rested above the river, softening the distance and creating diffuse, reflective light that changed continually as I travelled. Leaving the tripod behind, I worked handheld and changed from my usual 4:3 way of seeing to a 16:9 format, using the wider frame as an exercise in finding different compositions. At times, the fog opened just enough for sunlight to break through, briefly illuminating a boat, jetty or stretch of reeds and giving the scene an unexpected quality of light. The resulting images are less about a particular destination and more about learning to see familiar surroundings in a different way.
